brown-eyed Susan

Rudbeckia triloba

Native to the United States, this yellow flowering perennial is often seen in old fields or along roadsides. While it prefers moderate moisture, brown-eyed Susan tolerates most conditions, including drought, once it is established. A short-lived perennial, it self-seeds readily and flowers in its second year. Because it’s such a profuse self-seeder, it is not recommended for wildflower gardens with limited space.
