Grow in medium to wet soils in full sun to part shade. This iris may be grown in up to 2-4” of shallow standing water in rain garden or container.
Native to marshes, swamps, wet meadows, ditches and shorelines from Manitoba to Nova Scotia south to Virginia, Ohio, Illinois and Minnesota, this marginal aquatic forms a clump of narrow blue-green leaves up to 24” long with flowering stalks rising to 30” tall in late spring with 3-5 bluish-purple 4″ wide flowers. Clumps spread slowly by tough, creeping rhizomes, and plants will naturalize to form colonies.
