VINLAND VALLEY NURSERY WORKSHOP ITINERARY
Week One
• We will provide a paper notebook and supplies for Scouts to cut and collage the cover using our plant and seed catalogs.
• Scouts will tour the nursery and learn the differences between perennials, annuals, and other types of plants.
Week Two
• Scouts will choose a type of garden, specify a bed location and identify available light. Scouts will then create a plant list, learn how to allocate space needed for plant sizes at maturity and think about how the garden will be maintained during the planning process (how will you water and weed?) Using this information Scouts will design their gardens using grid paper and stencils provided.
Week Three
• Scouts will start seeds in small pots provided and make tags to label them. We’ll talk about stratification, timing and other important things to consider when starting seeds. Scouts will leave with their sown seeds and instructions on what to do with their seedlings after they’ve grown.
• Scouts will learn about starting plants from cuttings selecting from our tropical and succulent stock plants and take home their cuttings with instructions on how to keep them growing into full-sized plants.
