Educating the Next Generation of Gardeners!

Vinland Valley Nursery supports horticultural education through monetary and in-kind donations to school groups and organizations like Growing Food Growing Health. We provide grant writing and school garden planning assistance to help teachers and parent groups get school gardens and scout projects off the ground. We also hold workshops to satisfy scout badge requirements and other group projects.

If you are planning a garden or would like to plan a project please let us know how we can help by emailing or calling!

Resources

With your specific project in mind we can act as official resource and provide a site plan, supply list, process planning, and budget. We also offer materials and plants at a discount to match some grant funding.
The mission of Agriculture in the Classroom is to “increase agricultural literacy through K-12 education.” An agriculturally literate person is defined as “one who understands and can communicate the source and value of agriculture as it affects our quality of life.”

In addition to fantastic curriculum and lesson plans, National Agriculture in the Classroom offers grants for school gardens each year. Click here for lesson plans and grant information.

OWLS is an acronym for Outdoor Wildlife Learning Sites. It is a Program sponsored by the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks, and Tourism. An OWLS is an outdoor environmental/wildlife laboratory, at or near a school, consisting of one or more native habitat features. It is designed to attract native wildlife and to facilitate multi-discipline learning opportunities for students. The program involves several agencies and organizations interested in conservation education.

An OWLS grant provides $2,000 for developing initial features and an additional $1,000 for Rejuvenation and Certification grants, respectively. Window OWLS grants of $250 per classroom (up to $2,000 per school) are also available.

Captain Planet Foundation provides schools with gardens, strategies, and a program for building effective and long-lasting garden-based learning programs and healthy food access. There are currently 600+ Project Learning Garden schools across 41 states participating in this program.
