This perennial, climbing vine can be grown on a a trellis or fence and reaches up to 15 feet. Vines develop clusters of small, greenish-yellow flowers in late spring which develop into large interesting seed pods in early fall.
Wild yam grows in moist forests, floodplains, and wetland margins. It can be found in many protected areas, including national and state forests, parks, and wildlife refuges and provides food for a variety of wildlife.
Flowers are dioecious, so more than one plant must be grown together to produce seed.
