An excellent low perennial ground cover for shady areas, spreading with long rhizomes. Toothed leaves crowd near the top of fleshy, 6-inch stems topped with fragrant, white flower clusters in a spike. Leaves and stems are semi-evergreen. Once the new shoots mature, the previous season’s growth disappears. Scalloped leaves are marbled with silver and purple. Prefers moist, humus-rich, acid soil. In the wild, it is found in rich soils with limestone substrate. An excellent groundcover for holding soil.
