Korean spice viburnum

Viburnum carlesii

Korean spice is cold hardy and to care for, growing best in sunny to partly sunny locations with moist, slightly acidic, well-draining soils. Shade tolerant, but best flowering and fall color occurs with a minimum of 4 to 6 hours a day. White flowers open from pinkish buds in spring. Although not necessary, any pruning should be done immediately after flowering. A lovely garden specimen for smaller spaces, Korean spice is wonderful massed in beds, borders, and foundation plantings. Makes a great hedge or privacy screen. Outstanding fall color.

‘Spice Girl’ Korean spice grows 6-7′ high and wide with pink buds opening to white flowers.

‘Spice Baby’ grows to a relatively petite 5′ x 5′ size with all the fragrance and bloom of it’s larger parent.

Plant at least two of the three above V. carlesii to cross-pollinate for fall berries.
