Golden, ribbon-like leaf blades create a welcome bright spot at the edge of a shady area. This rhizomatous, shade-loving, deciduous perennial grass is native to mountain areas including wet rocky cliffs and also moist woodland areas in central Japan, including areas around Mt. Hakone, from which its genus is derived.
