Related to portulaca with fleshy green leaves and topped in tall spires of delicate, wiry flower stalks. Hot pink blooms are followed by seed pods every bit as showy as the flowers. The variety ‘Kingwood Gold’ has chartreuse foliage. .Although these plants freely self seed they are easy to pull so fun to have around, winding through other plants.
It has a hardy perennial native prairie cousin, TALINUM calycinum, with the same self-seeding ability and succulent foliage.
