Yellow wild indigo

Baptisia sphaerocarpa

Showy upright, mounded native with yellow, pea-like blooms along yellow-green stems rising above a foliage mound of clover-like, blue-green foliage in spring. Flowers give way to spherical ornamental seed pods that turn to brown when ripe. Stems with seed pods are valued additions to dried flower arrangements. Easily grown in average, dry to medium, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade but best in full sun, plants tolerate drought and poor soils. Plants are slow to establish but form with deep and extensive root systems that make them very dought tolerant.
