Wiry, branching stems are covered in small glossy green, needle-like leaves and a snowstorm of small white blooms in late summer and early fall.
A long-lived native aster that creeps by rhizomes to form patches, spreading by self-seeding as well. Native throughout most of the country these plants thrive in harsh conditions. Dry, sandy, rocky soils are its favorite, but plants will grow in any reasonably well-drained soil.
A great source of nectar for late season pollinators and a host plant for the Pearl Crescent butterfly and the Wavy-Lined Emerald moth.
