Native to Mexico, this trailing tropical dark purple lance-shaped leaves that sometimes get as long as 7″. In mid summer, small pink flowers with bright yellow stamens emerge at the tip of each section. A pink striped variegation is also available.
Purple heart does well in sun or shade, and makes a great bedding plant or container specimen. Easy to winter indoors. The stems of Purple Heart are very breakable, but root easily! Plants grow 12-16″ high and vine. Prune regularly to keep plants from getting leggy and thin.
