This low-growing, native shrub forms a dense mass of stems and is used en masse as a ground cover. An excellent shrub for stabilizing banks and slopes, the glossy, blue-green leaves emit a lemon scent when crushed and turn red, burgundy, and purple in the fall. Berries ripen in late summer and persist into winter attracting robins, sparrows, goldfinch, chickadees, and other songbirds.
‘Gro-low’ is a lower-growing selection used as a groundcover.
