‘Midnight Masquerade’ beardtongue

Penstemon 'Midnight Masquerade'

Plants produce sturdy clumps of deep burgundy-purple foliage which is most pronounced in direct sunlight. Dark foliage sets off lavender-purple blooms with pure white interiors just above the foliage. An improvement on other varieties, this superior selection boasts a fuller habit, vibrant flower color, and a more consistent flowering performance. Takes the heat and humidity in stride but is also very cold hardy. Penstemons are very drought tolerant, easy to grow and rarely bothered by insects or disease. Hummingbirds feast on their nectar.

hairy beardtongue

Penstemon hirsutus

Open clusters of trumpet-shaped, lavender flowers. Early bloom time and hairy stems distinguish it from other beardtongues. Prefers medium-wet to dry soils and adapts to most light conditions.
