angel ivy, wire vine

Muehlenbebeckia axillaries / complexa

Tiny, round green leaves densely cover reddish-brown, wiry stems. This vigorous little plant makes a wonderful filler and foliage contrast plant in combo baskets and planters. Wire vine also makes a great topiary frame plant (click here for a tutorial) and miniature fairy garden subject. This non-hardy variety grows faster than the perennial species to fill containers around annuals and tropicals quickly!

Muehlenbeckia consists of 20 species native to Australia, New Zealand, South America, and New Guinea. Only the species M. axillaris and M. complexa are common garden plants, and both are native to New Zealand.
