‘Winecraft Black’ smokebush

Cotinus coggygria

Round leaves emerge rich purple in spring and turn a deep near-black in the heat of summer, then light up in reds and oranges in fall. In early summer, large, soft panicles of bloom appear that become the misty “smoke” that makes this such a popular landscape plant. Unlike other smokebushes, this cultivar has a naturally rounded, dwarf habit that requires no pruning or special maintenance.

Native from southern Europe to central China.
