New foliage on this philodendron emerges lime-green with thin, light-yellowish stripes. As the plant matures, white variegation develops unique, rare patterns on pointed oval leaves. ‘Birkin’ prefers bright filtered light. Too much direct sunlight will scorch leaves. Use a damp cloth to clean the leaves. Water infrequently and plant in loose but rich soil to allow the water to drain freely through the bottom of the pot. Use an all-purpose organic fertilizer for tropicals during spring and summer to encourage new growth.
‘Birkin’ is a relatively new hybrid, a cross between Philodendron ‘Congo’ and Philodendron ‘Imperial Green’.
