shingle oak

Quercus imbricaria

Not easily recognized as an oak due to the atypical, unlobed foliage. Less common than other oaks, the shingle oak is quite lovely and useful to wildlife.

A medium-sized red oak that grows in a conical form to 40-60’ tall, with the crown broadening and rounding with age.
