Aesculus glabra  is found in the open may reach 60’ tall by 30’ wide, but as a native understory it is often half that size. Since colonial times, Buckeyes have been carried as good luck charms. NATIVE TO THE WESTERN HALF OF THE US

Aesculus x carnea ‘Briotii’ (red horse chestnut) is a 30–40’ tall tree with dusty red blooms on large 8-10” panicles appear in mid-spring. Prefers full sun or light shade and moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Briotii’ is a cultivar that was named in 1858 to honor Pierre Louis Briot, the nurseryman at Trianon-Versailles near Paris, France.
