black locust

Robinia pseudoacacia

‘Purple Robe’ is a poor soil and drought tolerant, deer resistant, and fast-growing native tree with a height of 30-40’ and a 20-30’ spread. Showy, pendulous clusters of fragrant purple flowers late May to June, with rebloom in fall. Delicate pinnate leaves do not cast strong shade, leaving ample opportunity to underplant with a variety of groundcovers and other attractive and beneficial perennials and hardy shrubs.
